Briar Bunnies

Briar Bunnies

Whenever I’ve been to the Knitting and Stitching Show, I’ve always visited Cool Crafting’s stand. Their Luna Lupin kit has been on my crafting wish list for quite a while, but because of my lack of confidence/impatience when it comes to sewing, and not wanting to mess up something that looks so lovely, I hadn’t quite got round to buying it.

During one such visit, I was delighted to see a new kit to make some small bunnies. This really appealed to me as I knew they would be quicker to make and I would be able to suss out how I might get on with a larger kit. When I turned the packet over and saw the beautiful festive fabric (I bought it intending to make them before Christmas), I was completely sold.

The kit included generous quantities of the fabrics, stuffing, cottons, needles and pins.

I found some of the instructions and diagrams really hard to follow but got the gist of what was needed. I used my sewing machine for as much of the first rabbit as possible, but I found it tricky to use on some of the smaller, fiddly seams, which had started to fray. I reverted to hand sewing instead and think I’ve just about got away with it if you don’t look too closely.

The second and third rabbits were quicker and easier, but I still found them frustrating to make.

I really like the simple embroidered face. When I’ve embroidered facial details onto crochet in the past it’s ruined whatever it was I was making, but even I couldn’t go too wrong with three simple crosses.

As I mentioned, the fabric supplied was very generous and instead of the two bunnies it was supposed to make, I was able to create three.

I like them, but I can’t say I enjoyed making them. The bits where I went wrong are glaringly obvious to me. I just don’t get the same amount of pleasure from sewing as I do with other crafts. So reluctantly, as much as I like her, I don’t think I’ll be making Luna and her fabulous wardrobe of clothes anytime soon.
