I had a fantastic day at the Norfolk Makers’ Festival, which is taking place at The Forum in Norwich until 19 March.

I’m just back from a week in Kent, my first holiday in three years! I stayed in Folkestone, somewhere I hadn’t visited before, and it turned out to be a really vibrant, creative place.

One of the things that I used to enjoy most about visiting the Knitting and Stitching Shows was seeing the work on display in the textile galleries. Even in pre-Covid times, the shows got too busy for me so I stopped going, preferring to look out for smaller exhibitions instead. When I saw that the Royal School of Needlework was holding a 150th-anniversary show at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, I knew that it would be something I would enjoy.

The Norfolk Makers’ Festival 2020

The Norfolk Makers’ Festival is a free annual event for all ages. There are talks, exhibitions, demonstrations and hands-on activities, many of which are free to join in. There are also paid workshops that you can sign up for and lots of fringe events taking place across the county.

Getting up on a Saturday morning earlier than I do for work can only mean one thing – another trip to the Knitting and Stitching Show.

I wasn’t sure if I’d manage to get to the Spring Knitting and Stitching Show because of the snow we’ve had this week but, despite the media’s non-stop scaremongering, I got there without any problems.

I love it when my hobbies come together. As well as crafting, I’ve been researching my family history for about 15 years. I’ve managed to add over 800 people to my family tree, going back as far as the 1640s on one branch.

The Autumn 2017 Knitting and Stitching Show – part two

When I visited the Knitting and Stitching Show on Thursday I just walked straight into the venue, but on Saturday it was much busier and the queue to get in snaked all the way back to the car park. Luckily it was a beautiful sunny morning and it provided an opportunity to talk to some lovely crafty ladies who were in the queue.

The Autumn 2017 Knitting and Stitching Show – part one

So the London Knitting and Stitching show is over for another year. I’ve mentioned before how much I enjoy going to this show and last week’s offering didn’t disappoint. The autumn show is held at Alexandra Palace, or Ally Pally as it is lovingly known. The venue is a short distance north of central London and, with it being up on a hill, it has a spectacular panoramic view of the city. It’s set in 196 acres of parkland, which every year I promise myself I will go and visit. I was lucky enough to be able to visit on two days this year, which meant I could take a more leisurely pace looking around everything.

Fabric, Fields and French Knots

On one of the last sunny days of summer I visited the Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket, Suffolk. I had visited once before and loved it because it’s full of local history, with lots of old buildings and open space to explore.
