Inspiration comes from all sorts of places. I received this pretty card on my birthday recently. The design (by Emma Grant) is so lovely and delicate, and it struck me as something that I could try and replicate using some of my craft stash.

I cut up an old black shirt and set to work using simple embroidery stitches. It didn’t take me very long to do – just an hour here or there.

I don’t think I’ve ever made anything quite like this before. I’ve done plenty of cross stitch and embroidery kits, but never anything that I was more or less making up as I went along.

I haven’t forgotten that this year was supposed to be all about UFOs, but I just couldn’t resist this little side project. The only problem is that I want to start more embroidery pieces now.
